MARKOWNIKOFF RULE
In organic chemistry, Markownikoff Rule made by the Russian chemist Vladimir Vasilevich Markovnikov , said in a chemical reaction of adding a hidrórgeno halide (HX) and a double bond carbon-carbon (C = C) of an alkene asymmetric , the major product halogen is added to carbon double bond having the largest number of substituents opposite and carbon (the one with the least amount substituents) will receive the hydrogen . More specifically, the addition of the nucleophilic Markownikoff first added to the more substituted carbon, and then adding the electrophilic less substituted carbon.
Ex:
CH2 = CH-CH 3 (propene) + HCl (hydrogen chloride) ---> CH3-CHCl-CH3 (2-chloropropane)
CH2 = CH-CH2-CH3 (1-butene) + HBr (hydrogen bromide) ---> CH3-CHBr-CH2-CH3 (2-bromobutane)
CH2 = CH-CH 3 (propene) + HCl (hydrogen chloride) ---> CH3-CHCl-CH3 (2-chloropropane)
CH2 = CH-CH2-CH3 (1-butene) + HBr (hydrogen bromide) ---> CH3-CHBr-CH2-CH3 (2-bromobutane)
