basically used two types of belts: flat and trapezoidal.
flat belts with pulleys require slightly pumped or channeled perimeter, the former being the most frequent.
In some special applications are also used ribbed belts and timing require the use of their respective pulleys.
V-Belts are the most widely used and there is a wide variety of sizes and shapes. Its operation is based on the wedge effect that appears between the belt and pulley (the higher the pressure the greater the penetration of the belt on the pulley and therefore more grip strength between the two). This forces the belt does not rest directly on the rim of the gorge, but only on the side walls in a "V".

Its usefulness is focused on the transmission of rotary motion between two shafts apart, allowing to increase, decrease or maintain speed, while maintaining or reversing the direction.
Can be found in washing machines, fans, dishwasher, polishing, videos, multicultores, meat cutters, drills, generators, lawn mowers, engine transmissions, compressors, lathes ... multiplier as speed gearbox or gear wheels.
